Cynthia Jacobs | MISSING | Lumbee

MISSING

Unsolved

Date: July 2017

City: Lumberton

State: North Carolina

On July 17, 2017, 41-year-old Cynthia Jacobs, a member of the Lumbee Tribe, was last seen in East Lumberton, North Carolina. Described as 5′‑6″ and approximately 110 lbs with brown hair and eyes, Cynthia vanished without a trace .

Cynthia’s disappearance followed a series of deeply troubling events in Lumberton that summer. Just weeks before she went missing, three Indigenous women — Megan Oxendine, Christina “Kristin” Bennett, and Rhonda Jones — were tragically found deceased in East Lumberton.

Reports indicate Cynthia may have been the last known person to see Megan Oxendine alive, underscoring the urgency of her case.

Despite being officially listed as missing and unsolved by law enforcement, Cynthia Jacobs’s story has received far less media attention and urgency compared with other cases in the area — a troubling reflection of the systemic neglect surrounding MMIW (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women).

If you have any information: Contact the Lumberton Police Department, Detective Jennifer White, or submit tips anonymously. Even the smallest lead — a sighting, a shared memory — could make a difference.
